LOCAL SCOUT EARNS BRONZE AWARD HELPING FARM

: 10 year old Molly Callahan, a member of Junior Girl Scout troop 10804, completed over 30 hours of volunteer community service in order to complete the requirements for her Girl Scout Bronze Award.

Molly designed and put together 100 "planting kits" for her project, which she named "Learn to Grow, Grow to Learn". Each planting kit contains a hand-painted pot, potting soil, northeast wildflower seeds, and directions.

Each kit is individually wrapped in a floral cellophane bag with hand made tag. Molly donated the planting kits to the Educational Farm's Spring Fair and summer camp.

NEW ENGLAND PAINTING BRIGHTENS OUR BARN

: Tony Ward, owner of New England Painting, donated several hours of his time on a Saturday morning to paint portions of the barn at The Educational Farm at Joppa Hill that were much in need of a fresh coat of paint. Old barns need constant maintenance and Tony's help was much appreciated.

HALEY'S BIRTHDAY WISH FOR THE FARM

: 7 year old Haley Klingseisen of Bedford had a birthday party at the Educational Farm. Instead of presents, this thoughtful and generous little girl asked for money to be used to purchase and donate something that we needed at the Farm.

Haley then brought us a battery operated weedwacker, a 150 ft garden hose, a couple of flat back buckets, some cat food, and some bleach. Thanks, Haley!

JOHN SCHEETZ EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT

Fall, 2007: Bedford Resident John Sheetz from Bedford's Troop 5 completed a large run-in shelter in our horse pasture. The shelter was finished just in time for winter!

The shelter protects the horses and ponies from all kinds of weather: wind, snow, rain, hot sun, and even provides protection from some biting insects during the summer.

HORSE STALL SPONSORSHIPS

Many thanks to all of you who helped us improve our Equine wing by sponsoring a horse stall. Each $750 donation allowed us to purchase materials and build a 12 x 12 box stall with a rubber mat floor. Every stall has a customized brass plaque on the front of it displaying the names of those who donated.

PELLETSALES.COM HELPS KEEP US WARM

2007, 2008, 2009: Pelletsales.com donated many pallets of soft wood pellets to the Educational Farm. This extraordinary gift will be used as bedding for our animals. It also allows us to heat our Discovery Room through the winter, so we can continue to run programs and meetings year round, and gives our staff of dedicated volunteers a place to warm up on cold winter days.

BEDFORD MEN'S CLUB: DEDICATED TO HELPING THE EDUCATIONAL FARM GROW

: The Bedford Men’s Club donated $1, 000 to The Educational Farm towards the purchase of a portable handicap ramp for wheelchair bound children. The ramp will enable the children to be put directly on a horse's back as part of our future therapeutic riding program.

Summer, 2007: A group of Men's Club volunteers painted and installed the fencing around our new 100' x 100' Riding ring. We can now use the ring for horsemanship lessons and pony rides at special events.

Spring, 2008: Some Bedford Men's club members came to the farm for our Spring Clean-up day, and helped us demolish and remove an old out-building at the end of our Equine Wing

The Bedford Men’s Club is a true partner and has been a long time supporter of the Farm. They have always been willing to help us either monetarily or through manpower, and are a truly caring organization. The Bedford Men’s Club is a non-profit organization designed to promote the betterment of the community.
