School holidays come and go in the blink of an eye. One moment you are looking forward to the half term break, the next, the children are back at school and summer is looming on the not too distant horizon.
According to recent reports, fines for term-time holidays have trebled since the ban was introduced two years ago.
While the 150 Local Education Authorities (LGAs) in England will set their own term dates, with some schools - including academies - having the ability to deviate from this calendar, the below dates can be used as a guideline. INSET (teacher training) days - five per year - may appear on either side of breaks or mid-way through the term.
Autumn term 2015:
Christmas holidays (last day of term): Friday 18 December 2015
Easter holidays (last day of term): Thursday 24 March 2016
Friday 25 March is a Bank Holiday. Easter falls on Sunday 27 March, 2016
Half term break: Monday 30 May to Friday 3 June 2016
Summer holidays (last day of term): Wednesday 20 July 2016
Autumn term 2016:
Christmas holidays (last day of term): Friday 16 December 2016
How many days until the summer holidays?
As mentioned above, there will be differences in schools across the country, but as a guideline (using Wednesday 20 July) here is our countdown. Still a few to go, is the answer. Good news for those with exams on the horizon.
